Gardening Communications Team Receives State Award – June 18, 2026

Creating communication and marketing tools to increase community awareness of Lake Granbury Master Gardeners contributed to the Lake Granbury Master Gardeners PR / Communications Committee winning the 2025 Texas Master Gardeners First-Place Award for Written-Recorded Education. Hood County Extension Agent Amanda Salinas presented the award during the June LGMG monthly meeting.

Projects undertaken by the Lake Granbury Master Gardeners PR / Communi-cations Committee in 2025 included creating a new brochure and presentation template; generating an annual report; starting a new internal on-line newsletter; and receiving local media coverage of projects, columns and activities, plus photos and information about the Monarch Butterfly festival published in a state-wide magazine.

“I’m not surprised, but it’s a great honor,” said LGMG President Dale Childers. “It’s a big part of why we’re successful.”

“Well done! … I am very proud of Hood County,” said Texas Master Gardener Secretary Jane McGowen and member of LGMG.

The committee also recently launched a new website with many resources for local gardening success. Whether figuring out the Hood County USDA Plant Hardiness Zone, searching for tough-as-nails Texas Superstar® plants, or mastering eco-friendly Earth-Kind® Gardening, lakegranburymastergardeners.org has everything gardeners need in one place.

The 2025-2026 PR/Communications team includes: Chair Louise Hooper, Anita Branch, JoBeth Cloud, Pamela Colborg, Debra Cook, Alicia Flower, Bridgette Piatt, Renee Rogers, Deborah Rollins and Phyllis Webster.

The Lake Granbury Master Gardeners (LGMG), a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, works to improve the quality of life in Hood County by sharing horticultural information through various projects, programs, events and activities.
