Texas Native Grasses Garden Bed
Tall Texas Native Grasses Garden Bed
The Texas Native Grasses bed is an example of an urban pocket prairie. Only 1% of the true Texas prairie grassland still exists today. The prairie ecosystem provides habitat/food for wildlife and restores groundwater. In an urban garden, grass can add texture, structure and whimsy. Tall grasses like Lindheimer Muhley wave in the breeze and catch the light with their tall, fluffy flower panicles.
Favorite Plants in this bed:
Pink Muhley - Muhlenbergia capillaris
Stunning fall blooming pink, flower panicles
Switchgrass - Panicum virgatum
Versital grass tollerates sun or shade – great for mass plantings or in a pocket prairie
