Monarch Migration & Tagging

Each fall, hundreds of millions of Monarchs complete an incredible migration from the United States and Canada to the mountains in Mexico to wait out the winter.  The Monarch Watch Tagging Program is a large-scale community science project started in 1994 with the goal of understanding the Monarch migration better.

Butterfly Garden

Bring the magic of butterflies to your own house, by planting a butterfly garden. Attending the Romancing the Monarch festival will empower you with the knowledge you need to plant your own butterfly garden. A Monarch butterfly garden must contain milkweed (the only host plant for Monarch caterpillars) and nectar plants to feed the adult Monarchs.

Romancing the Monarch is a FREE community festival that engages visitors of all ages.

Live Monarch releases are at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Each person also receives a piece of watermelon on a fork.  After the Monarchs are released, they will come back and feed on the watermelon.

Come and see Monarchs up close, learn how tell a male from female and the best place to attach a Monarch tag.
